Your Sense of Smell
We are very sensitive to odors. Olfactory nerves process odors through the part of the brain called the limbic system, which is connected to moods, emotions, basic drives and memories. Research suggests that odors called pheromones may even influence our choice of partners.

When we inhale a scent, our olfactory system is alerted and our physical or psychological reaction can be instantaneous. For example, smelling salts can revive someone who has fainted and the smell of cinnamon can evoke the memory of a childhood holiday.

Research is showing that certain essential oils stimulate similar responses for most people. But because of the range of life experiences and genetic make-up, individual responses can be highly variable. Your response to a particular oil, for example might range from a feeling of liveliness to a deep sense of calm.
